This evening I headed over the Shepherds Bush to catch Lostprophets Reading and Leeds warm-up show at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire. I have seen the band many times before the first time being at the Hanover Grand in London in 2001 (on film). The venue isn’t used for live performances anymore and I’m not even sure the band had released their debut album which shows you just how long ago it was! However many years have passed the band never dissapoint live as the shot of Jamie Oliver (above) shows. To view a slideshow of images click here.

Last night I was taking pictures of The Like at a secret gig. So secret infact that I was told the wrong venue and only made it to the venue just as the band came onstage. The show turned out to be at Madame JoJo’s and was a warm up for the band’s performance at the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend. Hailing from Los Angeles, California The Like went to Brooklyn, New York to record their second album. They worked with producer Mark Ronson, as well as various members of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Departing from the sound of their first album, the band was inspired by the music of classic girl groups, British invasion acts, and 1960s female songwriters. Downtown Records released the album, entitled Release Me, on June 15, 2010.

Last night I went to a new venue near Old Street, London called The Camp to catch country musician Caitlin Rose. Her recent album has received amazing press in the broadsheets accross the board and she is currently riding high in the iTunes ‘Singer/Songwriter’ chart.

The venue seem fairly unusual being in the basement of a posh office block but the space seemed to work for the show. At one point Caitlin thought I was trying to take pictures of her pulling a goofy facial expression but she laughed it off like a good sport! Here’s a shot I took last week when The Xcerts were supporting Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. at the Borderline in London. I took this of the band just before they went on stage. It’s deliberatly low-fi and I’m not sure if it will be used for anything yet. The band’s second album ‘Scatterbrain’ is released on 4th October. View the large image here.

Last night I took the train down to Kingston to catch Fucked Up at The Peel. I have to say it was one of the loudest shows I have been to for a while and my ears are still ringing! It was very different from the majority of shows I have photographed over the last few month but I love shows like this and Fucked Up make the audience just as much a part of the show as the band performing onstage. Last week I went down to the Shepherds Bush Empire to take pictures of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy’s (Will Oldham) show for The Observer. One of my photographs was published in this Sunday’s Observer ‘The New Review’ magazine (cutting below). It was a hard gig to photograph with lots of low red nighting (which I did my best to correct after the gig). From 1993 to 1997 Will Oldham performed and recorded under variations of the Palace name, including the Palace Brothers, Palace Songs, and Palace Music. After releasing material under his own name, he adopted the “Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy” moniker for the majority of his output since 1998. His lasts album ‘The Wonder Show of the World’ (by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and the Cairo Gang) was released earlier this year on Domino records (in the UK).

Last week I did some press shots for a new band called Middleman in Camden. The band hail from Leeds and are an interesting mix of rock and slam-poetry vocals with big choruses check out their new single ‘It’s Not Over Yet’ on their MySpace page. You can view this shot Big On Black here.

These shots of Diana Vickers (above) and Scouting For Girls (below) were taken at the iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse on Wednesday night. Click on each image to launch a flash slideshow of each artists.

Diana Vickers initially came to public attention as a semi-finalist on the fifth series of British talent show The X Factor in 2008. Her debut album, ‘Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree’  was released earlier this year achieving number 1 in the UK Albums Chart where the album has sold over 100,000 copies to date.

Scouting for Girls were nominated for three BRIT Awards in 2009 for ‘British Breakthrough Act’, ‘British Live Act’ and ‘British Single’. Formed in 2005 by Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard. Stride and Ellard met in the Cub Scouts and Churchouse met Stride at school. The name Scouting for Girls is a play on the words of the Scouting for Boys handbook first published in 1908 for the Scouts, which provides boys instructions on good citizenship.

These photographs of Daisy Dares You (below) and Chipmunk (below) were taken on Tuesday night at the iTunes festival in Camden. Daisy Dares You (Daisy May Keeley Coburn) has only released one single titled ‘Number One Enemy’ but has already attracted a lot of media attention being been profiled by The Times, the BBC, and The Guardian as a young artist to watch for in 2010. Her debut album ‘Rush’ is scheduled for release in August.

Chipmunk (Jahmaal Noel Fyffe) won the Best UK Newcomer at the MOBO Awards 2008. He also won Best Hip-Hop Act at the MOBO Awards 2009, overcoming US stars such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and Eminem.
